They say in the crime business to follow the money trail and you’ll find the culprit.  In the addiction field we follow the trail of trauma, neglect, grief, and loss – either real or perceived.
It is not the behavior of drinking or drugging, or disordered eating or obsessive spending (to name a few), but the underlying causes that propel people to want and need to medicate themselves from their psychic pain.
